Rex files can be played in Propellerheads Reason using the Dr Rex player, dropped onto Pro Tools audio tracks, played via Digidesign’s Structure sample player and can be played in a number of other ways. Check your software user guide for details on compatibility.

One advantage of a Rex file is that the tempo can be changed without the need for time stretching. If done incorrectly or if the source material is complicated, time stretching can introduce an unwanted bubbling effect. With a Rex file the sample slices are moved closer to each other when the tempo is increased and further from each other when the tempo is decreased.
